Biwei Chen earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. His specialization fields cover Applied Econometrics, Machine Learning, Macroeconomics, and Finance. During his doctoral study, he was a visiting scholar at Columbia University and New York University. Prior to joining the Belt and Road School, he held faculty positions at Barnard College, Colby College, Columbia University, and the Johns Hopkins University.
For over a decade, Professor Chen has been teaching students with very diverse backgrounds a wide spectrum of courses in Economics, Finance, Statistics and Data Analysis. He was a recipient of the CORE USA Teaching Fellowship, of the Emily Gregory Teaching Award Nomination at Barnard College, and of the CIT Bank Award for Economics and Financial Education at the City University of New York. Putting his teaching philosophy into practice, he has published three customized Economics textbooks since 2020.
Multiple times, his research on the interest rate term structure won the Foundation Scholarship of the National Association for Business Economics and the Salih Neftci Best Paper Award in the PhD Program in Economics at the City University of New York. In addition to publications in peer-reviewed journals, he recently co-authored several papers in the realm of artificial intelligence for the IEEE conferences.
At the Belt and Road School, Professor Chen endeavors to create transformational learning experience for MBA students, supporting them to acquire core values, essential skills, and critical thinking to turn future challenges to opportunities in the world of business and governance.
